flooding of highways also took place at two points in the Chislehurst
area where the gardens of three properties were affected. In
1958, when serious surcharging of sewers took place in the Sidcup
area, 37.38 inches fell, a figure 4.152 inches in excess of the current
year.
RODENT CONTROL.
It is difficult to account for the ebb and flow of rodent infestation.
1960 saw a modest increase in infestation both in the sewers
and above ground, although the position is infinitely better than it
was a few years ago. It would appear that increases in these pests
may be part of a natural cycle and that dry weather, especially in the
Spring is favourable to them. The total number of infested properties
dealt with in 1960 amounted to 468, compared with 426 in
the previous year. This tendency to increase has also been noted
in the early part of 1961. Almost all of these infestations were of

a minor character. A detailed summary of the work is set out herewith:—
