Qualified first aiders attend the local cinema, meetings and
outings of the Old Age Pensioners' Association, and Rest-a-While
Club. Assistance is provided at Queen Mary's Hospital and at
the Cheshire Foundation Home at Bromley. A First Aid Road
Hut is manned on the Sidcup By-Pass when necessary.
Medical equipment is on loan, at a nominal charge and may
be obtained on Tuesday evenings from the Lamorbey Drill Hall,
or at other times, by telephoning FOOtscray 2106.
Women's Voluntary Service.
This report has been furnished by the Metropolitan Kent
County Office.
Darby and Joan Club. The membership at the "Home from
Home" club has now almost doubled and is nearing the 100. They
continue to meet once a week at the Holy Redeemer Church Hall,
Days Lane.
General Welfare Work. W.V.S. members continue to assist at
the Blind Clubs in Chislehurst and Sidcup and also do a considerable
amount of visiting of old people in their homes. The Cray
Valley Hospital Trolley Shop and the assistance given in the OutPatient
department at Queen Mary's Hospital still occupies a
number of W.V.S. members. They also frequently undertake to
escort people to hospital.
Meals on Wheels. Once again we have to report that the
Meals on Wheels service has failed to materialise. The main difficulty
is the inability to find suitable premises in which to cook
the meals.
CHISLEHURST AND SIDCUP OLD PEOPLE'S WELFARE
COMMITTEE.
The following is a brief summary of the work carried out by
the Committee:—
About 800 members attend one or more of the 12 clubs for
the elderly which are geographically well spread throughout the
district.
"Redlac," Station Road, Sidcup.
The original nine tenants still live in their flatlet homes.
Boarding-Out Scheme.
This continues to expand and to become better known. A
total of over 200 placings have now been made. The Committee
is always pleased to hear of anyone willing to house an elderly
person.
Friendly Visiting.
The panel of visitors has continued the good work of visiting
lonely old people.
