SERVICES RENDERED BY VOLUNTARY AGENCIES.
British Red Cross Society.
The local headquarters of the Society is located at Hornbrook
House, High Street, Chislehurst. It was with regret that towards the
end of the year, the death of Mrs. A. Harvey, Divisional Director
for the past 12 years, was announced. The Divisional Secretary is
Mrs. E. M. Watling.
Several local detachments of the Society continue to operate
within the district and training in first aid, nursing and mothercraft
both for cadets (11-15 years) and seniors is undertaken. First aid
posts are manned at garden parties, gymkanas, cinemas, sports
meetings and wherever there is a demand. Escorts are provided for
patients travelling to and from hospitals.
The Good Samaritan Club for the disabled meets at the Headquarters
on the first and fourth Monday afternoon in each month,
and there are handicraft classes on Tuesday mornings at the same
venue. Similar classes are arranged in St. Paul's Cray on Wednesday
mornings and sewing classes at Queen Mary's hospital.
Foot Clinics for Old Age Pensioners take place at Chislehurst
on Thursday mornings and afternoons.
Medical loan depots are operated from Hornbrook House and
from 24 Chislehurst Road, Sidcup.
The St. John Ambulance Brigade.
The Divisional Superintendent, Mrs. O. Barton, informs me
that the 97th Sidcup Nursing Division, functions in the Sidcup area.
