cesspools generally are being emptied more frequently. The total
quantity of effluent collected amounted to 1,444,800 gallons.

Some difficulty has been experienced in finding suitable disposal points to discharge the contents of the emptying vehicle.

DISEASES OF ANIMALS (WASTE FOODS) ORDER, 1957.
The work of licencing and controlling plants for boiling waste
food was delegated by the Kent County Council during 1958. It is
principally designed to prevent disease in animals fed on swill.
Plants at six premises are licenced and nineteen visits were
paid to ensure that operation was satisfactory.
DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE.
I am informed by the Engineer and Surveyor that new lengths
of sewer have been completed, or adopted in private estate
development as follow:—
Foul Sewers of 6", 9" and 12" diameters, totalling 250 yds.
Surface Water Sewers of 9", 12" and 15" diameters, totalling 386 yds.
In addition, the Council completed in repairs and modifications
of existing sewers, the replacement of lengths of new pipe:—
Foul Sewers 9" diameters, totalling 85 yds.
Surface Water Sewers 15" diameters, totalling 17 yds.
Schemes have been prepared for
Foul Sewers 6", 9" and 12" diameters, totalling 1,800 yds.
Surface Water Sewers 9", 12" and 15" diameters, totalling 380 yds.
FACTORIES ACTS, 1937 AND 1948.
Public Health Inspectors have made 339 visits of inspection to
factories, with and without mechancial power, and building sites,
etc. which are controlled by these Acts. 37 nuisances or defects
were dealt with, some in conjunction with H.M. Inspector of
Factories.
