The number of specimens dealt with shows a very substantial increase on the corresponding figure for 1958.

NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT, 1948.
Section 47.
Power is given to apply to the Court for an order for the
compulsory removal of aged or infirm persons living in insanitary
conditions and not able to care for themselves.
In all, seven cases of this description came to notice. Full
investigations were made and in all but one instance it was possible,
in collaboration with other authorities, to alleviate the conditions
obtaining.
The other case, that of an elderly lady living in a shack, was
not amenable to informal procedure and a Magistrate's Order was
obtained providing for her removal to a County Establishment.
Section 50.
This Section of the Act places a duty on the local authority to
arrange for the burial or cremation of the body of any person who
has died, or been found dead in their area. if it appears that no
suitable arrangements for the disposal of the body have, or are
being, made. Expenses incurred by the local authority may be
recovered from the estate of the deceased person, from any person
liable to maintain the deceased person, immediately prior to his
death, or from the "Death Grant."
During the year, two bodies were caused to be buried under
this Section.
