PUBLIC MORTUARY.
Quite a proportion of the time of the Chief Disinfector and his
assistant is taken up by duties at the Public Mortuary. The
reception and treatment of bodies, the arrangements which have to
be made in connection with Post Mortem examinations, and the
emergency calls which are apt to be made in connection with this
service, all call for unusual qualities.
The Mortuary which contains refrigerated accommodation
for six bodies has been redecorated and provided with more
efficient heating during the year. Further additions and improvements
to equipment will be put in hand in 1959.
The number of bodies received into the Mortuary during the
year was 182, of which 83 came from hospitals. Inquests were
held in 37 cases.
