Piggeries.
There are twenty-two piggeries in the district, to which one
hundred and forty-four visits were made. Eighteen defects were
found and remedied.
INSPECTION OF FOOD PREMISES.
Butchers' Shops.
There are forty-nine butchers' shops in the district of which
forty-four are registered for the making of sausages. Three
hundred and thirty-four visits of inspection were made during
the year. Six cwt. one qtr. of meat was condemned in butchers'
shops.
Bakehouses and Bakers' Shops.
There are twelve bakehouses in the district. There were two
hundred and forty-four visits made to these premises and to
bakers' shops. Forty-five defects were found and remedied
during the year.
Fishmongers and Fish Frying Premises.
There are fourteen premises in the district where fish frying
is carried out. Out of a total of two hundred and forty inspections
made of fish premises, seventy-two were to fish frying shops.
Eight defects were found and remedied.
Milk.
A total of eighty-six Licences were granted under the Milk
(Special Designation) (Pasteurised and Sterilised Milk) Regulations,
1949, and the Milk (Special Designation) (Raw Milk)
Regulations, 1949. They were as follow:—

Sixteen samples of pasteurised milk were taken, all of which
were satisfactory.
There are sixteen dairies in the district to which forty-six
visits were made. Seven defects were found and remedied.
Ice Cream.
There are one hundred and fifty-five premises registered for
the storage and sale of ice cream in the district. Fifty-three
samples were taken for bacteriological examination. No pathogenic
organisms were found to be present.
