The examination of the samples showed them to be of
genuine quality with the exception of the following—
Chewed bread:
Contained brown fragments having; microscopical characters of
tobacco.
Warning given.
Baking powder:
Available CO2 4.5%: 43.7% deficient of minimum amount.
Warning given.
Damson jam:
Fruit content (on average composition of damsons) approximately
33.0%.
Satisfactory explanation given by manufacturers.
Baking powder:
Available CO2 4.7%: 41.0% deficient of minimum amount.
Satisfactory explanation given by manufacturers.
Rum:
Excess water 27.5%.
Prosecution. Fine £5 and 15/- costs.
Cooked oatmeal:
Containeci a small quantity of dye of nature of methyl violet.
No action required. Probable contamination in home of complainant.
(iv) Ice Cream
31 samples were taken for bacteriological examination.
No pathogenic organisms were found to be present.
The methylene blue tests resulted as follows:—

(v) Slaughterhouses.
There are 2 licensed slaughterhouses within the District.
(vi) Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933.
(a) Slaughtering.
No animals were slaughtered.
(b) Slaughtermen.
Three applications for licences to slaughter animals under
the Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933, were granted.
(vii) Milk and Dairies.
There are 24 dairies and cowsheds in the District. These
premises were given special attention, and 34 visits were
made. 8 defects were found and remedied.
