One sample of Margarine was delivered in an unlabelled wrapper.
Vendors fined 2s. 6d., and 8s. costs.
Two samples of Whiskey contained 8 and 104 per cent., respectively,
of excessive water. Vendor fined £3.
The sample of Rum contained 8.1 of excessive water, and the Vendor
was fined £3,
During the year 26 examinations were also made by the County
Inspector of the Weights of Coal, all of which were found to be correct
Water Sampling.—During the year two samples of Water were
taken for bacteriological examination. These samples were forwarded to
the County Laboratory, and from the Reports of the County Analyst it
would appear that the water supply of this District is, on the whole,
satisfactory.
House Refuse Removal.—It will be remembered that the Council,
with a view to economy in expenditure, decided to curtail the arrangements
with respect to the collection of house refuse, and from the 21st October
a fortnightly instead of a weekly collection of refuse was made.
The collection of the house refuse by our own workmen has again
worked well.
The total number of loads of refuse removed during the year was 2,107.
Destruction of Flies, &C.—During the breeding season the pits, &c.,
at the Whitehorse Hill Refuse tip were treated with paraffin, according to
your instructions, with a view to the destruction of these pests, and fly
campaign leaflets were also distributed throughout the District.
Petroleum.—Ten persons were licensed for the Storage of Petroleum
in respect of amounts varying from 50 to 1,000 gallons. About 25 visits
have been made in connection with the Private and Traders Petroleum Stores.
Carbide of Calcium.—Three persons were licensed for the Storage
of Carbide of Calcium in respect of amounts varying from 112 to 336 lbs.
