CHISLEHURST URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL
To the CHAIRMAN and MEMBERS of the
CHISLEHURST URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL.
GENTLEMEN,
I have the honour to present to you my Annual Report for the
year 1911.
By an Order recently issued by the Local Government Board
is is now compulsory for the Inspector of Nuisances to make an
Annual Report to the Medical Officer of Health. As a matter of
fact, I have always prepared an Annual Report since the formation
of the Urban District Council.
The number of visits and re-visits made to premises has been
3,757, and 203 nuisances have been discovered.
Complaints. Twenty-four complaints were received and
investigated. Of these three related to accumulation of house
refuse, two to smells from sewer gratings, one from the alleged
pollution of the River Cray, four to accumulation of offensive
matter, seven to defective drains and water-closets, one from sulphurous
fumes from a greenhouse, one from contamination by
petrol, two from carpet beating, one from a defective and insanitary
house, one from the keeping of fowls in an insanitary condition,
and one from defective surface water drainage.
On investigating the three complaints relating to the non-removal
of house refuse, in two of the cases complained of the refuse
was found to be that of garden and trade refuse.
One of the complaints relating to the smell from sewer gratings
was found to be an offensive accumulation of garden refuse near
the sewer grating complained of. This grating was closed at the
time of visit.
The complaints show an increase of four over those of the
previous year.
