They also notify the School Medical Officer of children absent
from school on account of illness, and information about cases of
non-notifiable infectious diseases comes .mainly from the Head
Teachers.
I regard the Head Teacher who takes a practical interest in the
physical welfare of the children and in the work of medical
inspection and treatment—and Beckenham is very fortunate in this
respect—as one of the greatest allies that the School Medical
Service can obtain.
CO-OPERATION OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
OFFICERS.
The School Attendance Officers take no part in the work of
Medical Inspection nor in following up children suffering from
defects. They do, however, supply the School Medical Officer with
valuable information about children whose absence from school is
due to illness, and this leads to the homes being visited by the
School Nurse and appropriate advice being given to the 'mother.
It also results in a certificate being given by the School Medical
Officer as to the length of time the child should be absent from
school.
CO-OPERATION OF VOLUNTARY BODIES.
The Beckenham Charitable Society have given assistance in a
number of cases during the year which were brought to their
notice, and four children were sent to Convalescent Homes through
the aid of the Society.
