following particulars are taken from the Report of the Honorary
Secretary, Mrs. M. Howard Smith.
During the first Session there were 125 children on the Roll—
75 boys and 50 girls—the average attendance being 115. The attend
ance during the second Session was much reduced owing to the
influenza epidemic.
Classes were held in dancing, raffia work, painting, leather work,
dramatic reading, dressmaking, singing, and organised games.
The success of the Centre is due to the enthusiasm and work of
the voluntary helpers.
CO-OPERATION OF PARENTS.
Parents are notified of the date and time of Routine Medical
Inspections, and both parents are invited to attend. Usually the
Mother only attends.
The nature of any defects found is explained to the Mother, and
advice is given as to treatment and how it should be obtained.
A printed card with the days and hours of the various Clinics is
given to the parent.
CO-OPERATION OF TEACHERS.
The Head Teacher is, as a rule, present during the Routine
Inspections and makes a note of all the defects found. Where
children require special exercises for physical defects the Head
Teacher sees that the appropriate drill is given. They select cases
who appear to require medical examination, they influence the
parents in obtaining treatment, and they send children to the Clinics
who require advice and treatment.
