of Table II. The treatment provided and the results have been set

EYE CLINIC.
In my last Annual Report I referred to the decision of the
Education Committee to terminate the arrangements whereby
children requiring spectacles were sent to the Out-patient Department
of one of the London Hospitals.
An Eye Clinic has been opened at 75, High Street, and all School
children suffering from defective vision are now referred for treatment
to this Clinic.
Mr. A. E. A. Loosely, F.R.C.S. (Eng.), has been appointed a
Part-Time Ophthalmic Surgeon, and his appointment has been
approved by the Board of Education. It is estimated that the Clinic
will be open about 25 Sessions during the year, each Session lasting
three hours.
The first Session of the Clinic was held on the 10th April, 1922,
and since that date to the end of the year the following is a record
of the work done:—
Number of Sessions from 10th April to 31st December, 1922 15
Number of Children examined 153
Total number of Attendances 315
Number of Spectacles prescribed 75
Spectacles are obtained on reasonable terms from two local
opticians. The cost of the spectacles is borne by the Education
Committee in the first instance, and recovered from the parents later,
usually by weekly instalments.
The local facilities for prescribing spectacles are much appreciated
by the parents, and are a great improvement on the old
arrangements. Much less difficulty has been experienced in securing
the provision of spectacles in new cases, and in the re-examination
of those already wearing glasses.
