London County Council Housing Estates.
The London County Council give preferential consideration to families who are living
in overcrowded conditions and in cases where a member of the family is suffering from
tuberculosis. The number of St. Pancras cases rehoused by the County Council under this
arrangement between January, 1925, and December, 1936, is 988. In addition, a number of
families living in the Borough are rehoused by the London County Council as a result of
direct application.
Housing Schemes in the Borough.
The Borough Council have now developed ten housing estates in the Borough, with a
total of 845 flats, comprising 2,768 rooms, exclusive of kitchens, etc. The Ferdinand Place
estate will be completed shortly, and the Carlow Street estate and the Somers Town extension
are in course of development. The Leighton Road, Queen's Crescent and Camden Park Road
schemes will be proceeded with so soon as the necessary sanctions have been obtained.
The London County Council have placed contracts for the erection of a block of 101
flats to complete their Ossulston Estate.
The Commissioners of Crown Lands are extending their housing scheme in the
Cumberland Market area by the erection of a block of 128 flats in Redhill Street.
During the year the St. Pancras House Improvement Society, Ltd., have erected 36
flats in Drummond Crescent, 26 flats in Aldenham Street and 20 flats in Wilkin Street, known
as St. Joseph's Flats, St. Michael's Flats and Pentland House respectively. At the end of
the year a further 101 flats were in course of erection.
