and diarrhoea" (No. 27); "appendicitis," and "premature birth," now included under "other
defined and ill-defined diseases" (No. 32) or, in the case of "premature birth," in certain instances
under "congenital malformations" (No. 31). Causes of death now specially listed which were not
previously mentioned separately are "malignant neoplasm, lung, bronchus" (No. 11); "leukaemia,
aleukaemia" (No. 15); "coronary disease, angina" (No. 18); "hypertension with heart disease"
(No. 19); "hyperplasia of prostate" (No. 29); and "homicide and operations of war" (No. 36).
It may be explained that the total number of deaths (911) shown in the Table is inclusive of persons
who, though normally resident in the Borough, died elsewhere in England and Wales, but exclusive
of persons who, though they died in St. Marylebone, were ordinarily resident in other parts of England
or Wales. Deaths of persons ordinarily resident outside the borders of England and Wales are included
in the St. Marylebone figures if they occur in the Borough as also are those of members of the armed
forces who were stationed in the area.
