HOUSING.
The information asked for by the Ministry with regard to housing is contained
in the following statement. The Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions)
Act, 1920, so far as regards the provisions of Section 2 (2), and the Rent
and Mortgage Interest Restrictions Act, 1923, Section 18 (1) relating to certificates
as to suitability for occupation of houses, were not taken advantage of during
the year, no application being received.
1. Inspection of Dwelling-houses during the Year:—
(1) (a) Total number of dwelling houses inspected for housing
defects (under Public Health or Housing Acts) 1,859
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 10,296
(2) (a) Number of dwelling-houses (included under sub-head
(1) above which were inspected and recorded under 639 houses and
the Housing Consolidated Regulations, 1925 373 tenements
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 3,472
(3) Number of dwelling-houses found to be in a state so
dangerous or injurious to health as to be unfit for human
habitation Nil
(4) Number of dwelling-houses (exclusive of those referred to
under the preceding sub-head) found not to be in all

2. Remedy of Defects during the Year without Service of formal
