The deaths from nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys) and Bright's disease
of the kidneys, sometimes regarded as the result of irritation of the organs produced
by chronic alcoholism, numbered 42. The number in 1924 was 31, and in
1919, 39.
ACCIDENT, SUICIDE AND MANSLAUGHTER.
Accidental or violent deaths during 1925 numbered 50. Of these 11 were due
to suicide. Deaths of babies certified as resulting from suffocation (overlaying)
numbered 2.
PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
A table showing, with regard to the infections, the total number of notifications
received, the age distribution and the number of cases notified from each of
the four registration districts, will be found on page 80.

The total number of notifications coming to hand was 669. The bulk of the
notifications related to tuberculosis, which contributed 223 to the total. Other
diseases in respect of which fairly large numbers of notifications were received
were scarlet fever (168), diphtheria (132), and pneumonia (69).
In 1924 the number of cases notified was 706.
The notification rate (proportion to population of notified cases of infectious
diseases) in 1925 was 6.3 per 1,000, as against 6.6 in 1924.
The figures for 1919 were, total notifications (including 920 of measles and
German measles at that time notifiable), 1,795; notification rate 18.9 per 1,000.
