In conclusion, I should like to thank the members of the staff—those who are
now serving with the colours as well as those who are still on duty here—for their
loyalty to me and for the admirable way in which they have worked.
When in November the numbers were reduced by the enlistment of all men
who were fit and of military age, and it became necessary to make considerable
alterations and rearrangements, the remaining members without hesitation undertook
to carry on all the work until their return, and willingly accepted increased duties.
All have worked with an admirable devotion deserving of the mention which I am
glad to make of it here.
I am,
Mr. Mayor, Madam and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant.
CHARLES PORTER.
