sunshine of 53 per cent. There were 10 rainy days, giving a
rainfall of 16 inch. The winds were mostly S.W.
June was sunny, with a recorded sunshine of from 30 to 44
per cent. The maximum temperature was 78º and the mean
61.2°. There were seven rainy days, giving a rainfall of only
0.84 inch. Winds W. and S.W.
September Quarter.
July—four out of the five weeks were warm and very bright,
the sunshine ranging from 45 to 74 per cent., and the temperature
attained a maximum of 84.0°, the mean temperature being
69°. The last week of July was stormy and unsettled, with
thunder, lightning and heavy rain. There were nine rainy days
giving a total rainfall of 1.91 inch. The prevailing winds were
south-westerly.
August was bright and summery, but the heat was not
oppressive, the extreme ranges being from 48.5º to 87° and the
mean 61.5°. There were 8 rainy days yielding a total rainfall of
0.83 inch. The winds were variable. Bright sunshine ranged
from 41 to 68.4 per cent.
September was also fairly fine. The temperature was
between 40.5º and 71.6° with a mean of 57.0°. There were 12
rainy days giving a rainfall of 1.8l inch. The sunshine registered
varied from 40 to 60 per cent.
December Quarter.
October.—The third and fourth weeks of October were
more or less foggy. The temperature of the month was normal,
the mean being 65.6°. There were 10 rainy days, the rainfall
amounting to 1.27 inch. The winds were light and variable.
The sunshine recorded during the fogless weeks, in Regent's
Park, ranged from 11 to 28 %.
November.—The November weather was variable, the first
week being gloomy, the second wet, the third cool, the fourth
cold and wintry, with a slight fall of snow. The temperature
oscillated between 28° and 58°, the mean being 47.4°. On 11
days rain fell, giving a rainfall of 1.67 inch. Sunshine was
generally deficient.
December.—December was foggy, especially the last two
weeks. There were altogether 12 foggy days, on at least 4 of
which the fog was dense and general. The month was cool,
most of the morning temperatures being from 1 to 3 degrees
below zero; the mean temperature was 41.5°. On 15 days cold
rain and slight snow fell, the rainfall being 174 inch. Bright
sunshine was deficient, the sun being only transiently visible for
a few days.
