HORACE STREET DWELLINGS.
The Horace Street group of Artisans Dwellings are
composed of :—
Windsor Dwellings,
Osborne Dwellings,
Erin House,
St. George's Dwellings,
St. Mary's Dwellings,
St. Michael's Dwellings.
The number of families inhabiting these dwellings is 87.
33 of these occupy 1 room, 52 occupy 2 rooms, and 2 more
than two rooms.
The population, as taken by Mr. Andrews, the Inspector
for the District, within a few days of the last day of
the year was 355, 175 of whom were children.
The deaths during four years, 1900 to 1903 inclusive, were
as follows :—

Diphtheria 2
Influenza 1
Phthisis and tubercular diseases 10
Bronchitis and other chest affections 9
Premature birth 1
Heart disease 1
Accidents 2
Other diseases 8
Total 35
This is equal to a death-rate of 24.5 per thousand per
annum; the death rate of the, sub-district of St. Mary, in
which the buildings are situated, varying in the same years
from a minimum of 16 to a maximum of 19.
The diseases notified during the four years were as
follows :—
Small Pox 1
Chicken Pox 1
Scarlet Fever 5
Diphtheria 11
Erysipelas 5
Total 23
This is equal to 16.1 per thousand of the population per
annum, the similar rate for St. Mary's sub-district being for
the same period only 7.4 per thousand.
