Before premises are registered, a schedule of alterations and improvements is submitted,
where necessary, to the applicant. When the improvements have been carried out, a standard
capable of maintenance results.
The number of premises registered since the inception of the L.C.C. General Powers
Act, 1932, now repealed by the Public Health (London) Act, 1936, is 174. In all, 47 premises
have been removed from the register, the occupier having removed or discontinued in business,
and 9 premises were considered unsuitable for satisfactorily conducting the type of
business for which application for registration was made, thus leaving a total number of
129 premises now on the register.
SUPERVISION OF THE ICE CREAM TRADE.
During the summer season 64 inspections have been made in connection with the
manufacture or sale of ice cream at the 57 premises now registered in the City, and 40 inspections
have been made of the barrows or stalls of itinerant vendors, who this season
numbered 20.
In all instances where lack of cleanliness or other breach of the requirements of the
Act were observed, the issue of a caution has resulted in appropriate steps being taken to
remedy the defect.
Additional premises registered during the year in accordance with the requirements
of the Public Health (London) Act, 1936, Section 187, numbered 17, and two premises have
been removed from the register, the occupants having gone elsewhere or discontinued in
business.
INSPECTION OF BARROWS, ETC., OF ITINERANT VENDORS OF FOOD.
During the year 67 inspections have been made of the barrows, etc., of itinerant vendors
of fruit and confectionery, and 13 of these were found to be in an unsatisfactory condition.
The issue of cautions and warning letters, however, resulted in a general improvement being
made by all the offenders, with the exception of one, who has now given up the selling of
fruit in the City.
