TINNED PEAS.
A consignment, consisting of 170 cases of Marrowfat Tinned Peas, were landed
at one of the City Wharves in the early part of the year. The consignment was
exported from Belgium, and the tins were labelled:—
"In accordance with the methods which have been followed for
"many years past, the contents of this package have been prepared with
"a small quantity of Sulphate of Copper, not exceeding 2 grains per lb."
The consignment was placed under embargo and a sample submitted to the
Public Analyst in order that the actual proportion of Copper Sulphate might be
determined. He reported as follows:—
"Crystallised Sulphate of Copper 0.48 grains per lb."
The amount of copper present was not considered large enough to justify a
a prohibition of sale.

tuberculosis, but from which it differs in certain important respects. It is also
known as pseudotuberculosis, and mainly affects sheep, although it is said to have
been found in cattle, calves, guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens.
True tuberculosis is a condition of extreme rarity in sheep, and I confess to
having never seen a case. Pseudotuberculosis, on the other hand, is extremely
