FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ACT, 1901.
FACTORIES, WORKSHOPS AND WORKPLACES.
The premises at present upon the Register number 3,971, which includes
7,405 workrooms, &c.
A new register has been made every year, containing only such information as was
necessary for the current year's work. This special register has also served a necessary
purpose in connection with the report required by the Act to be sent to H.M. Home
Office each year, the figures required being abstracted from it.
For the coming year a new system of Registration has been devised in the form of
a card index. One of the advantages to be derived from this system is that each
Inspector will have under his immediate control a list of the premises which he is called
upon to inspect, and will not have to search the common register from time to time for
information as heretofore. In addition, each card will form a continuous record of the
sanitary history of the premises to which the card relates.
Specimens of the cards to be used will be found in this Report under their
respective headings, viz.—Factories, Workshops or Workplaces, &c.
There were 3,224 notices served during the year for various purposes under
the Act.
The condition of the places inspected shows general improvement as time
proceeds.
