FACTORIES.
During the year there were 125 businesses placed on the register for the
first time. There were, however, 80 removed, which shows a net increase of
45 businesses, which will involve the inspection of an additional 334 workrooms
by your Inspectors during the coming year.
The Local Authority has but little responsibility respecting the internal
arrangements of Factories, their duty being confined to the provision of suitable
and sufficient sanitary accommodation and the maintenance of the structure
in a sanitary condition under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891.
When any defect remediable under the Factory Acts comes to the knowledge
of this Department, H.M. Inspector of Factories is immediately informed.
