DISINFECTANTS.
With the exception of one year, viz., 1903, the expenditure for disinfectants
was the lowest recorded since the methods and material adopted in 1901 have
been in operation. This is due 'to the cold and wet summer season
experienced in 1907.
As heretofore, all the disinfectants used in the Public Health Department
were obtained through your Medical Officer of Health.
They are used for the following purposes :—
A. Deodorizing and " denaturalizing " condemned meat.
B. Disinfecting public conveniences (urinals, &c.).
C. Disinfecting roadways, street gullies, &c.
D. Disinfecting premises, &c., after infectious disease, drain testing
and sundries.

The amounts spent during the past twelve months under these several headings were :—

£s.d.
A3100
B221911
C92189
D36193
Total£156711

The average amount expended during the previous three years for similar
purposes was £180 4s. 2d.
During the year arrangements were made with the heads of the several
other departments of the Corporation whereby in the future any disinfectants
required by them can be obtained direct from the Contractor supplying the
Public Health Department. It is hoped that a considerable economy will be
effected by this procedure.
