In comparing the above with the Registrar-General's Returns, some
discrepancies will be observed, due to the fact that I have not been
furnished with the number of citizens who died in Institutions other thu
those with which the City is connected.
The death rate from zymotic disease per 1,000 of the population was 0.44
compared with 1.41 in the Metropolis.
Infantile Mortality.
The deaths of children under one year of age to 1,000 births were 89,
against 116 for the whole of London.
The Table of infantile mortality on p. 17 shows the deaths of children
under one year arranged according to monthly age periods. From this it
will be seen that no less than 29 per cent. of these deaths occurred in the
first month, 58 per cent. within the first three months, and 79 per cent. during
the first six months of existence.
Deaths in City Institutions.
During 1907, 97 persons died in City Workhouses, Workhouse Infirmaries,
or Lunatic Asylums, or no less than 37.6 per cent, of the whole City mortality,
the corresponding figure for the Metropolis (1906) being 22.3 per cent.
