VACCINATION ACT, 1907.
This measure received the Royal Assent on the 28th August, 1907, and
came into operation on the 1st January following.
It was introduced in the Commons by the President of the Local Government
Board as a Government Bill.
Its object is to relieve the "Conscientious Objector" of the necessity of in
person satisfying a magistrate that he conscientiously believes that vaccination
would be prejudicial to the health of the child before he can obtain an
exemption certificate.
By this Act the anti-vaccinationist can secure exemption from the operations
of the Vaccination Act by making a Statutory declaration before a
Commissioner for Oaths or Justice of the Peace, or other Officer authorised to
receive a Statutory declaration that he has conscientious objection, and it
remains to be seen whether this Act will cause any increase in the numbers of
those obtaining exemption.
The form of declaration required by the Act is as under :—
