During the year 89 inspections of bakehouses were made, and with three
exceptions they were found to be up to the standard required by the Act.
The defect in each of the three cases mentioned was want of cleanliness in the
walls or ceilings, which was remedied forthwith on service of Notice.
One new aboveground bakehouse was registered.
WORKPLACES.
(Kitchens of Restaurants, &c.).
The inspection of these places was proceeded with as usual, and there is
little to add to what has been set forth in former Reports, especially that
of last year.
In that Report the subject was dealt with in a fairly exhaustive manner from
the sanitary standpoint, and some of the paragraphs which might be of value
to anyone seeking information on the several points are added as an appendix
to this Report (see page 166).
The question of suitable larder accommodation has received special attention.
In one case, meat was found deposited in what was practically the lobby of a
water-closet, the occupier protesting that he had no other place for it; but
an application to the owner of the premises resulted in a good safe being
provided outside a staircase window.
