HYGIENE OF HAIRDRESSERS AND BARBERS' SHOPS.
Considerable progress has been made during the year in effecting improvements
in the conduct of the business of Hairdressers and Barbers within the
City, in accordance with the recommendations of the Sanitary Committee
approved by the Corporation.
Some difficulty was experienced in inducing City Hairdressers to effect
registration with the Incorporated Guild of Hairdressers, Wigmakers and
Perfumers, it being found that many of them, while willing to make improvements
in the conduct of their business, declined to apply for the Certificate
through the Incorporated Guild of Hairdressers.
Inasmuch as the public health is directly concerned with the sanitation of
Barbers' shops and Hairdressers' saloons, it is undesirable that any obstacle
should be placed in the way of those willing to conform to the regulations
and recommendations adopted by the Corporation.
In these circumstances your Medical Officer advised that members of these
trades should be notified that the Corporation would grant voluntary
Certificates to any Hairdresser within the City boundary whose premises were
in a sanitary condition and who would undertake to carry the regulations
into effect. This course was agreed to and a form of Certificate adopted.
Applications were received from the undermentioned Hairdressers whose
establishments were in a satisfactory sanitary condition, and Certificates were
issued to them upon their undertaking to comply with the Regulations of the
Corporation :—
