REMOVAL OF HUMAN REMAINS FROM THE SITE OF
THE OLD CHRIST'S HOSPITAL.
In the course of excavations for additional buildings to St. Bartholomew's
Hospital on the site of the old Christ's Hospital a large number of human
remains were discovered. There is no record as to how or when these were
placed in this position, but from the way in which they were grouped it would
appear that they had been shot here after removal from some burial ground.
A licence was obtained from the Home Office for the removal of these remains,
and they were reinterred at the City of London Cemetery at Ilford under the
supervision of your Medical Officer of Health.
