"Guinea-pig 8a.— Subcutaneously injected with sample 8. This
"animal showed typical septicæmia with copious presence of
"bacillus coli communis in the blood and in all viscera.
"Guinea-pig 17.— Peritoneally injected with sample 17. It showed
"typical necrotic-purulent deposits in the omentum, liver and
"spleen, with the copious presence of bacilli pseudo-tuberculosis.
Guinea-pig 22.— Peritoneally injected with sample 22. Died of
"acute peritonitis on August 24th, with copious presence of
"bacillus coli communis.
"The companion of this animal, viz., guinea-pig 22a, subcutaneously
"injected with sample 22, developed big tumour in groin, which
"became necrotic, leading to extensive ulceration of the skin of the
"groin and abdomen (healed by September 18th), a condition
"known to occur after subcutaneous injection of some virulent
"forms of bacillus coli communis.
"Of the other animals killed between three weeks and four weeks,
"only those of sample 16 (sixteen) and 17 (seventeen) showed the
"lesions of true tuberculosis, with the copious presence of the bacilli
"tuberculosis."
