DOMICILIARY MIDWIFERY
The duty to provide adequate domiciliary midwifery service is discharged through the
Council's own midwives and those employed by district nursing associations and hospitals.

In addition, 64 independent midwives practised during the year compared with 50 in
1961.
The use of the Ambulance Service switchboard for routeing night calls has enabled
revised relief arrangements to be made, under which the midwives receive an extra 17½
hours off duty each month.
