The sum of the three sub-totals given by Graunt is 8,009. There are several instances where Graunt's sub-totals do not add up to his grand total. For the years 1604—1656 Bell's figures have been quoted wherever possible for this reason. Unfortunately Bell only gave figures for 18 selected years.Maitland's figures for 1604—1656 are obtained by adding up Graunt's sub-totals.
