According to Graunt the figure of 25,886 covers the period March to December (11,503 died of plague). In a Bill published in 1603 by John Windet the 25,886 is attributed to the whole of the year 1593 with an additional note that 2,000 died the year before. (Confusion may have arisen because in those days the new year began on 25 March and the year covering the Bills began on 1 January, 1592, and ended 31 December, 1593.) | |||
