GENERAL PUBLIC HEALTH
Housing
In view of the present concentration on building new houses and repairing old
properties, it was not to be expected that there would yet be any considerable revival
of activity on the Council's pre-war clearance schemes. The Director of Housing
requested, however, information concerning two areas which were being considered
for development and in which " clearance " powers might be applicable. Surveys
were undertaken and full particulars of the sanitary conditions of the properties
within the areas were supplied. It is anticipated that similar surveys of other areas
will be required in the near future, and, in the meantime, steps are being taken, as
far as possible, to bring up to date earlier surveys of areas which still remain in the
programme of clearance operations drawn up by the Council before the war.
