Movement of
population
1901-1910.
The natural increase in the County of London during 1901-10 has not been sufficient to compensate
for the loss by the outward movement of the population. The following table gives some
indication of the nature of the migration which has taken place within the county, and from it outward.

It will be seen that even the area of Greater London has lost nearly a quarter of a million of its population by migration during the 10 years; and it is estimated that nearly three-fourths of this loss has occurred in the latter half of the decennium.

(a) Greater London is the administrative area of the Metropolitan and City police. The "outer ring" is the
part of Greater London by which the Administrative County is surrounded.
(b) For the purposes of these rates the births in the principal lying-in institutions have been distributed to
the district to which they belong.
(c) These death-rates are fully corrected for institutions, by the exclusion of deaths of persons not belonging
to, but occurring in, institutions situated within London, and by the inclusion of deaths of persons belonging to
London, but occurring in London institutions situated outside the Administrative County.
