Report of the Medical Officer oj Health.
Hydrophobia.
A man, E. S., aged 24 years, died from hydrophobia in the Hackney Union Infirmary. Dr.
Warry has kindly supplied me with notes of this case by Dr. W. I. Cowell, acting medical superintendent
of the infirmary. The patient, who had been a soldier, was, with another man, bitten by a rabid dog
on the 8th September, 1909 ; both were treated at the Pasteur Institute, the other man dying fourteen
days after his admission. E. S. remained well until the 19th March, 1910, when he suffered from
symptoms resembling those of hydrophobia, and died on the 22nd March. The spinal cord was not
examined.
Meteorology.
The tables published in the Annual Summary of the Registrar-General, deduced from observations
at Greenwich under the superintendence of the Astronomer Royal, show that the mean temperature
of the air in 1910 was 50-2 deg. Fahrenheit, which is 0.1 degrees above the average of the pieceding
65 years. The rainfall during the year amounted to 28.06 inches, an excess of 3.93 inches over
the average of the preceding 65 years.

The temperature and rainfall in each month of the year 1910 are shown in the following table:—
