PET ANIMALS ACT. 1951
This Act. has been in force since the 1st April, 1952, and requires that no
person shall keep a pet shop unless licensed by a local authority.
9 licences were in force during 1962 and no contraventions were reported.
LAND CHARGES ACT, 1925
During the course of the year the Public Health Department provided 1,720
reports answering enquiries of the Town Clerk regarding properties in the Borough
in which negotiations for purchase were proceeding.
WATER
The water supply in the Borough is provided by the Metropolitan Water Board,
as the statutory authority for London, and has been satisfactory in quality and
quantity.
WELL WATER
There are 4 wells in use in the Borough, 2 being on factory premises and 2
at the Council's public baths establishment at Prince of Wales Road.
16 samples of water were taken during the year, 8 of which were submitted for
chemical and 8 for bacteriological examination; all proved satisfactory.
SWIMMING BATHS AND PONDS
There are 5 swimming baths in the Borough; 2 being at Prince of Wales Road
(Borough Council) l at Parliament Hill (L.C.C. Lido) and 2 private. 12 samples of
water were taken during the year for bacteriological examination. In the case of
one private bath a minor fault in the water purification system was revealed. This
was corrected and subsequent samples proved satisfactory. Samples from the other
baths were all satisfactory.
There were also 2 swimming ponds, l ladies' and l men's, at Parliament Hill.
8 samples were taken, 4 for chemical and 4 for bacteriological examination. All
samples were in a normal condition.
SEWERAGE
Arrangements in St. Pancras for sewerage and sewage disposal are adequate.
The Borough Council's sewers discharge into those of the London County Council,
which authority is responsible for sewage disppsal.
