Deaths from Tubercuilosis.
The deaths from all forms of tuberculosis during the year were 271; of these 227 were
from pulmonary and 44 from other forms of tuberculosis. These figures are equal to a death
rate of 1.24 (1.04 pulmonary, 0.20 non-pulmonary) per 1,000 of population.
In the following table these deaths are classified as regards age and sex:—

In the above table it will be noted that deaths from Pulmonary Tubercubosis (Consumption)
were most numerous at the age periods from 25 to 55 years, no less than 141
deaths occurring between these ages, out of a total of 227 at all ages. This large proportion
of deaths during the most useful and productive years of life is a serious loss to the
community.
Although the loss of life from Tuberculosis is still very great, various remedial
measures have effected a material reduction during recent years, the figures for the past
2 years, both as regards notification rates and death rates, being lower than in any previous
years. This is shown in the following table, which gives these statistics for the past 10 years:—
