In previous years the above were included in the table of "Primary Notifications on
Form A." This year they are shown separately.
It will be seen that the number of primary notifications on forms A, B, C and D, was
516. In addition to this, 61 other cases were not notified, but first came to knowledge by means
of special death reports (see table). The total of new cases during the year was therefore 577,
equal to a notification rate of 2.69 per 1000 of the population. The corresponding figure for
the previous year was 682 cases, with a notification rate of 3.21 per 1000.
Of the total 577 new cases, 440 were suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis, and 137 were
non-pulmonary in character, equal to a notification rate of 2.05 and 0.64 respectively.
