Proceedings were taken in this case and a fine inflicted. I procured 10 samples
of butter substitutes for analysis to be made, with a view to knowing what
ingredients were used in its manufacture. For results of analysis, please refer
to your special report on Margarine.
Ice Cream Makers.—I made 185 inspections of the ice cream makers
premises and barrows, and had to complain of dirty utensils, dirty premises
and other breaches of the by-laws. In some cases the vendors were cautioned
by order of the Public Health Committee.
During the year I attended before the magistrates at the different police
courts 49 times in the discharge of my duties.
