The 194 births in public institutions having been re.distributed according to population, the number of births and the birth.rate of each of the Sub.Districts, and of the District, were as follows:—

DEATHS.
During the year 1904, the corrected total number of deaths from all causes
at all ages was 4129, being 300 more than during the preceding year, and 370
below the annual average of the preceding ten years. Per 1000 of the population
the death.rate was 17.4 compared with 16.2 in the previous year, and an
annual average of 19.3 in the preceding decennium.
The total number of deaths and the death.rates in the Sub.Districts are set out below, 169 deaths from all causes not referable to any particular Sub. Districts being distributed according to population:—
