The total number of inspections of the above premises and places is 1,824.
I made 14 applications to the Magistrates sitting at the various Police Courts
to condemn and order to destroy the following unsound food: —
2 Sheeps' Livers.
1 Ox „
1 Pumpkin.
13 lbs. Tomatoes.
10 lbs. Apples.
1 barrel of Oranges.
8 lbs. Cherries.
65 lbs. Pears.
40 lbs. Plums.
25 lbs. Beef.
7 lbs. Mutton.
Each of the above applications were granted, with the result that in 10
instances further proceedings were taken and penalties inflicted.
The following food was also destroyed, but was surrendered by the owners:—
1 bushel of Oranges.
1 truck load of Savoy Greens.
2 Ducks.
2 lbs. Tomatoes.
3 bushels of Plums.
4 tins of Salmon, &c.
19 frozen Rabbits.
¾ trunk of Haddocks.
1½ cwt. of Conger Eels.
1 trunk Cod Fish.
1 Fowl.
3 lbs. of Mutton.
Slaughter House Inspection.
There are 8 licensed private slaughter-houses in the divisions, to which I
paid 266 visits; these premises were kept in a clean condition, and the Byelaws
of the London County Council carefully complied with, and it is satisfactory
to note that, although these slaughter-houses are in close proximity to,
in some instances abutting on to dwelling houses, no complaint was received
of any smell arising therefrom.
Owing to the slaughter-houses being situated at a distance from each other,
and slaughtering taking place after office hours, and carried on at different
establishments at the same time, it is impossible to examine every carcase after
being dressed.

I examined the following carcases before leaving the slaughter-houses:—
