the London Fever Hospital were occupied, the Vestry acceded
to the request of the Committee of that institution to lend
for erection on their ground at Islington the tents
stored at Finchley; by the time, however, that the tents
were erected, difficulties occurred which prevented their
occupation and finally they were returned to the Vestry without
having been used at all. It was fortunate that during
this period St. Pancras was far more free from scarlet fever
than the rest of the Metropolis, otherwise there would
probably have been no alternative but to have again opened
the hospital at Finchley.
Diphtheria.
During 1882 there were 51 deaths from diphtheria, being 19
less than in 1881, and 71 cases were reported to the Sanitary
Department. The number of deaths was 10.7 in every 1000
deaths from 'all causes,' and 0.21 in every 1000 of population.
During the previous 10 years the average number of deaths
from diphtheria had been 7 in every 1000 deaths from ' all
causes.' In London the average number of deaths was 10.4
in every 1000 deaths from 'all causes,' and .22 per 1000 of
population, being about the same as in St. Pancras.

The following table shows the incidence of deaths from diphtheria on the different sub-registration districts. AJ1 tha deaths from diphtheria were referred to the sub-registration districts to which they belong, but 188 deaths from 'all causes,' which could not be referred are eliminated from consideration.
