Analysis of Food and Drugs
During the year 1,000 samples of food and drugs were procured
for analysis; 260 samples of milk, 707 other foodstuffs and 33 drugs.
Of these, 240 were submitted as formal samples, while 760 were
purchased informally. Five or 2.08 per cent, of the formal and 22 or
2.76 per cent, of the informal samples were found to be adulterated
or not up to standard. The total adulterations reported were 27 or
2.7 per cent, of the samples submitted.
The 27 samples found to be adulterated were:
Six samples of bread, five dirty milk bottles, four samples each of
glace cherries and milk, two samples each of cream and prepared
sauce and one sample each of rum truffles, tobler-o-rum chocolate,
blackcurrant drink and canned butter beans.
