Report of the Medical Officer of Health.

During the year 1914, of 6,633 children whose births were
registered, 3,171 or 47.8 per cent. were successfully vaccinated,
compared with 45.1 per cent, in 1913, and 52.0 per cent. in 1912.
This is a slight increase compared with the previous year, but is,
with the exception of 1913, the lowest rate recorded.
The returns for the year 1914 again show a decided decrease as
regards successful vaccination, compared with the decennial average,
and the record of the number of unvaccinated children in the
Borough, especially in Streatham and Tooting Sub-Districts, is from
a public health point of view, a most unsatisfactory one.
Scarlet Fever.
1,309 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year,
compared with 1,417 in 1914, 971 in 1913, and 833 in 1912. 194 of
these were in Clapham, 64 in Putney, 294 in Streatham, 312 in
Tooting, and 445 in Wandsworth.
The total number of deaths was 22, and the death-rate per 1,000
population was .06, compared with .03 in 1914.
The case mortality was 1.69 per cent., compared with .91 in
1914, 113 in 1913, and 1.32 in 1912.
The following Table shows the rate of notified cases per 1,000
persons living for each sub-district and for the whole Borough for
the year, and the three previous years, as well as the corresponding
rates for the whole of London.
