Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Military Billets.
During the year several premises were taken for the billeting
of soldiers, and pickets were stationed at certain places in the
Borough. At the request of the Military Authorities, these premises
were all inspected periodically and a report on the conditions
found sent to the War Department after such inspections. In all
2,027 inspections were made by the Sanitary Inspectors (42 in Clapham,
250 in Putney, 689 in Streatham, and 1,046 in Wandsworth).
Refugees' Homes.
Several premises were taken by various organisations for the
housing of French and Belgian war refugees, and during the year
70 inspections were made of these premises. 15 of the inspections
were in Clapham, 13 in Streatham, and 42 in Wandsworth. In all
these cases the arrangements made for the housing of the refugees
were quite satisfactory.
Canal Boats Act.
During the year 37 inspections of Canal Boats were made,
but it was not necessary to serve any notices, as on inspection the
conditions of all the boats was found to be satisfactory.
Statement of Work done under the Rag Flock Act, 1911.
35 workshops were visited by the Inspector and the materials
used for bedding and upholstery were examined.
20 examples were procured and submitted for analysis, and all
of these were reported as complying with the standard of cleanliness
required.
