Report of the Medical Officer of Health. 141
Houses let in Lodgings.
At the end of 1914 there were 292 houses let in lodgings on
the Register. None were added during 1915, and none removed,
making a total of 292 on the Register at the end of 1915.
684 inspections of these were made during the year, and 358
notices were served, 10 for overcrowding and 348 for other conditions,
chiefly cleansing.
On the whole the By-laws have been satisfactorily complied
with, although in some instances the cleansing was not carried out
at the specified time. Proceedings at the Police Court were taken
in one instance, and a fine of 20s. and 2s. costs was imposed.
Offensive Trade Refuse.
I have again to report that the arrangements which have been
made by the Council with a contractor for the removal of this refuse
have during the year worked quite satisfactorily, and no complaints
have been received. In a certain number of cases this refuse is
removed privately, and this has also been carried out in a satisfactory
manner.
Unsound Food.
One trunk of dabs, one trunk of herring, two boxes of haddock,
34 boxes of tomatoes, 26 barrels of apples, 15 baskets of potatoes,
four sacks of turnip-tops and seven ducks were destroyed at the
request of the owners and the usual certificates granted.
FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS.
There has been a decrease in the total number of inspections
of the above, compared with 1914, but an examination of the Tables
will show that a very large amount of work has been carried out
by both the male and female inspectors.
