Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The incidence of Scarlet Fever during the year was somewhat
under the average during the first nine months, but during October,
November and December, the cases increased rapidly and this
increase was general all over London. It was due chiefly to the
mild character of the disease, which resulted in a considerable
number of unrecognised cases and a consequent spread of the
disease by means of schools, tramcars, buses and kinematograph
theatres.
Diphtheria.
The number of cases of Diphtheria notified during the year
shows a slight decrease compared with the previous year, and is
much under the average number for the last 10 years.
The following Table shows the number of cases notified, the
number of deaths that occurred in the separate sub-districts and
in the whole Borough for the years 1903-1912 inclusive, the average
for the 10 years, and the number of cases and deaths in 1913.
