13 from Putney, 17 from Streatham, six from Balham, 11 from
Tooting, 11 from Southfield, six from Fairfield, and 18 from
Springfield Wards.
All these complaints were forwarded to the Borough
Engineer, who reported that in 76 cases the sewers were flushed
and disinfected, in nine the manholes were temporarily sealed,
in three ventilating columns were erected, while in two cases
broken manhole plates were repaired.
(5)—Inspections were also made of several passages and mews
with the result that several have again this year been satisfactorily
dealt with.
(a) Passage in rear of 102 to 114, Streatham High Road has
been properly paved.
(b)—Passageway at rear of 104 to 108, Eardley Road, Streatham,
entering from Leverson Street, has been properly paved
throughout after service of notice on the various owners.
(c)—Passageway between 95 and 97, Fallsbrook Road, Streatham,
has been properly paved and drained.
(d)—Passages in Corsehill Street, Streatham. These passages,
which extend along the back of the houses on both sides
of the road, and their several entrances have been properly
paved. In some cases gates have also been erected
at the entrances to the passages.
(e)—Passages at rear of Ribblesdale and Nimrod Roads, Streatham.
These passages extend from top to bottom of the
roads in the rear of the houses and at one time had boundary
fences which had been broken down. They were in
an insanitary condition and notices have been served on
the owners. So far nothing has been done as there is a
difficulty in ascertaining the responsible parties, but further
inquiries are being made and it is hoped that the work
will be carried out during the current year.
(/)—Passage in rear of 2 to 18, Pretoria Road, Streatham, was
found to be in an insanitary condition and notices have
been served. The work will be completed in the current
year.
